Hawaii Photographer ~ Church "Is GOD Dead?"I took this shot last week of a church on the Hamakua coast on the Big Island (Hawaii Island) on my way back to my Hilo home. I have passed this old abandon church many times and every time I tell myself to stop and take a photo of it but I am always in a rush. Well I finally stopped and took some photos of it. As I sat in my truck across the highway from it I wondered what happen to this church. Why was it abandon? Is GOD dead to this congregation? I was sad as I looked through my viewfinder of my camera, I wasn't sure why I was sad, but then I remember that the church building is not the body of CHRIST, we are the body of CHRIST.

This is not the Kamakawiwoole Church, but I can't tell you which church it is. My great grandfather, Charles Moses Kamakawiwoole, preached at his church from around 1888 until his death in 1931. I will try to attach a picture of the church here to show you what the Kamakawiwoole Church (also called Kalemela Church and the East Hamakua Protestant Church) looks like. Like the Kamakawiwoole Church, the church in your photo is representative of the hundreds of old Hawaiian plantation-style churches whose architecture are very similar. I love your photo, by the way. It captures a proud and endearing part of old Hawaii. I'd be interested in purchasing a print of it from you if you'll contact me. Here's a link to a photo of the actual Kamakawiwoole Church. http://www.usgwarchives.net/hi/tombpics/kamakawiwoolecem/009_kamakaw.jpg Mahalo! Shirley
